volunteers

All types of jobs for volunteers of all ages available! Join us for some fun community service.

Various other odd jobs always needing done:
  • Spread the word! Visit with people you encounter on the trail, ask them if they’ve purchased a pass to support the trails. If not, encourage them to do so. Tell them about our capital campaign. With every trail user’s help,  we’ll be able to accomplish trail improvements to benefit all.
  • Clear branches and sticks off of the trail
  • Clean the chalet bathrooms (supplies are under the sink in the main room)
  • Restock kiosk maps and day pass envelopes (we’ll give you a store room key)
  • Round up fire wood for event bon fires (usually an armload or 2 of cut and split wood is all we need)

Candle Luminary Ski  – Sunday December 26, 2021

Join the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club on the evening of Sunday December 26th for the annual Candle Luminary Ski.  Enjoy a  candle lit evening to celebrate the holidays with family and friends on the Maasto Hiihto ski trails.

Starting from Hancock’s Four Seasons Chalet at the north end of the Houghton County Fairgrounds, 1 and 2 kilometer loops will be aglow with luminaria from 6-8 pm The day after Christmas

This fun, free event is for the whole family, including the kids whether they are on skis or in pulks.  Everyone is welcome at Maasto to keep the Christmas spirit going. For folks who don’t ski, you may snowshoe or snow bike.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 the chalet will not be open and we will not be having holiday goodies or refreshments this year.  A portolet will be available however.

For more info, or if you’d like to volunteer, please contact:  P1050029John Diebel

Retro Ski....February 19, 2022.   The Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids trail system encompasses a lot of territory that seldom see ski tracks all winter.  The Retro Ski is an opportunity each year to explore some of that country with like-minded friends and knowledgeable guides.

RSVP: Contact either Jay Green at (h) 487-5411 (c) 370-1400 or John Diebel 281-1486 if you are coming.
